1958: a crucial year

Flora Haniotou, Director of the Boarding Department (1948-1979) was an eye witness and active member in some of the most significant events in the history of the College and its transition into an independent academic institution. 

Flora Haniotou was a former student of the American College in Smyrna and Old Phaliro (class 1923-1924). She studied Psychology (1924-1925) and Dietetics and Speech (1956-1957) at Cottey College in the United States. She became director of the Boarding Department at Pierce College in 1948 and in her earlier years, she had also worked with the Near East Relief, the American Red Cross, the YWCA and the Near East Foundation. Flora Haniotou got her retirement in 1979 and she died on March 30, 1985.
